Can-Can Cabochon Necklace Tutorial

The Cab-Can Cabochon necklace will definitely get you noticed!  If you would like to learn a combination of bead embroidery with peyote stitch, this tutorial is for you!

The Can-Can Cabochon gets its name from the ruffly peyote-stitch skirt that peeks out from behind the embelished cab.  It hangs from a necklace of gemstone beads and Swarovski crystal pearls.

What You Will Learn

So what exactly will you learn in this tutorial?  How about:

  • Attaching a cab to backing, then building a capture bezel.
  • Bead embroidery and embellishment.
  • Ruffled peyote stitching.
  • Creating a bale.
  • Stringing the necklace.
  • Putting all together — beautifully!

And so much more!

The Can-Can is Versatile!

This really is a versatile project, and you can dress it up or down.

For example, you’ll see two variations of the Can-Can cabochon, and you’ll also learn:

  • The Russian Spiral stitch.
  • Ladder stitch with pearl embelishments.

So you don’t have to just string the necklace portion — you can also use beadwork if you like.

You can get as elaborate as you like, and just about anything is fair game when it comes to the cabs that you use.

This tutorial is 22 pages long, and has 42 full-color photos, many close-up.  There are hints and tips scattered throughout the tutorial, to  help make your beading project easier and more enjoyable.

Even Count Peyote Bracelets Tutorial

Even count peyote bracelets are wonderful “instant gratification” jewelry projects.  Not only is peyote beading easy, but it works up fast.  And it also lends itself well to embellishments, so you can dress up and dress down as you like.

How about taking a look at this project, based on flat even count peyote.

Three Bracelets, Six Looks

In this tutorial, you’ll find three bracelets, of which I also did one variation each.  That means six bracelets for you to learn about and enjoy stitching!

The projects are

  • Exploring All Angles: a journey into using triangle seed beads in your work.  With this lovely project, you also learn to make your very own peyote toggle clasp!  In the variation, you learn about using matagama (“drop”) beads as well.
  • Catch the Wave: this undulating bracelet makes me think of the ocean, with swells rising and falling.  In the primary example, I made it in seashore colors.  In the variation, I show you a more angular look, if that’s what intrigues you.  And the angular look has a bit more texture as well.
  • Elegant Intrigue: Turn a plain peyote bracelet into a show-stopper!  You’ll use bead embroidery on this project.  And on the variation (which I’ve dubbed, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”), you’ll take that embroidery up a notch!

Want to see the bracelets included in this tutorial “live”?  Here’s a video I did about the bracelets, so you can see them better.

The ebook is 45 pages long, chock full of photos (89 of them, all in color) and has detailed instructions.

There are photos with some extreme close-ups of where exactly you need to place your needle and thread- no guessing.

Now this tutorial does assume you know the basics of even count peyote, but if you’re new to it, don’t worry.  (I have a free tutorial that teaches you the basics of even count flat peyote, so you’re good there.)

So, anything else you need to know?  Read on…

The Wonderful World of Beaded Jewelry

Bead Embroidery Cuff BraceletWelcome, everyone, to the wonderful world of beaded jewelry!  I’m Gail Nettles, your hostess, and I’m here to teach you how to make beaded jewelry. In these pages you’ll find both video and ebook tutorials, along with some eye candy. And I hope a little dose of fun! 🙂

Beaded Jewelry, Then and Now

Beaded jewelry has been a part of my life for years.  And when I think about it, it goes all the way back to when I was a child, with macrame, stringing and just being fascinated with the colors, textures and shapes.

For many years I abandoned beaded jewelry, except pearls, in my corporate “dress for success” phase.  After a few years of that, I realized I needed some fun and color back in my life (can you tell I am inspired by color?).

(You can read more about my beading life on the About Me page.)

“Slink Stones” – Right Angle Weave

I’ve come to realize that no matter what beading style you prefer, it’s all about what you like to create.  Hopefully, it’s a fun and rewarding part of your life, too.

So onward to the beading information!

Beaded Jewelry 101, 202, 303 and More – Tutorials!

I love looking at photos of other people’s jewelry, don’t you?  I get inspired by designs, wondering, “how did they do that?” and then trying my hand at the design.  More often than not I fail, but I usually still create something I can proudly wear.

Well, I will have photos for you to enjoy.  And I’m also creating tutorials for those of you who like a design and want to know just how to make it.  Some are free, some cost a tiny sum — but I think you’ll find them worthwhile.  And I also have some free video tutorials of some of the basics of beaded jewelry.

Beaders of all levels are welcome in my “Projects” tutorials!  I’ll have beginner, intermediate, advanced and try-this-at-the-risk-of-your-sanity projects.  :)  Most are in the intermediate range, though.

And let’s not forget about my free “Basics” tutorials!

Every so often I do stray into another area, like Viking Knit jewelry, because I adore Viking Knit chains as necklaces for pendants.  Not to mention having beads included in the styles!

What Kinds of Jewelry?

Oh boy, if there is a beading style that I haven’t tried, I don’t know what it is!  In these pages I’ll cover beadweaving (primarily seed beads), stringing, bead embroidery, wire jewelry, chain maille and more.

In other words — a lot of different jewelry styles and techniques.

So kick back, get comfortable, and enjoy the wonderful world of beaded jewelry!
